From the 13th to the 17th of July, the Community of Irrigators of the Ebre’s Right Side Canal (Comunitat General de Regants del Canal de la Dreta de l’Ebre), welcomed Dr Ravindra, a pest specialist and a counsellor of Deltamed, the Association of Mediterranean Deltas.

Dr Ravindra dealt with the Apple Snail (Pomacea Insularum) problem, which is ravaging our rice crops.

Since his last visit in 2010, we have been able to realise that the snail pest is very difficult to eradicate and can be regarded as a very serious problem considering we have very few crop alternatives.

We wanted to make good use of his knowledge in order to control this pest efficiently and our technicians exchanged ideas with him on the most efficient corrective measures to be taken.

However, it is important to note that this specialist was impressed by the effectiveness of the work that the Community’s technicians and staff had carried out.

Deltamed’s counsellor, Dr Ravindra believes that a report should be sent to the EU through Deltamed and he offered to write it himself so that they take the most appropriate measures to solve this important issue.
