On January 30, 2025, the Association of Mediterranean Delta ets (DELTAMED) participated in the conference “Protecting Wetlands for our Common Future”, organized on the occasion of the World Wetlands Day, at the Iuav University headquarters of Palazzo Badoer in Venice. The event represented an important opportunity for discussion on the future and conservation of wetlands, with a particular focus on their sustainable management both at local and global level.
During the conference, participants had the opportunity to explore concrete solutions for the protection of wetland ecosystems in the Mediterranean, a crucial issue for the protection of biodiversity and the resilience of natural environments.
A particularly significant moment was the meeting with Chris Rostron, Coordinator of MedWet (Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative), a regional intergovernmental network working in the context of the Ramsar Convention. MedWet involves a wide range of key actors and promotes shared policies and actions for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of wetlands in the Mediterranean.
The event has strengthened awareness of the importance of a collective commitment to the protection of these vital areas. In this regard, DELTAMED hopes to soon start a collaboration with MedWet and to expand its network of contacts and actions at the Mediterranean Basin level, with the aim of contributing concretely to the conservation and management of these ecosystems.
